The McLean house where Generals Lee and Grant met to sign the surrender papers of the Army of Northern Virginia.
The white buildings in the lower yard were the McLean slave quarters.
The small structure to the right is an ice house where, during the winters, people of that era would cut ice
from ponds and rivers and store it in a pit dug several feet into the ground.
