Originally built in 1825, this early 20th century photograph shows all that remained of the Chancellor House at that time.
According to US Library of Congress records, the Chancellor House was rebuilt twice, once in 1908, after being
destroyed during the Battle of Chancellorsville. However, it burned after each rebuild and
today only a few bricks and some steps remain at the site of the original structure.
The building at the time of the Battle was about 126 feet wide and 62 feet deep.
