On your right is the Bullock Road along which, on May 2, 1863, Lane's North Carolinians waited in the dark to repel any potential Union advance.
From this location would come the tragic friendly fire that felled Confederate Lieutenant General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson.
Jackson was riding in the woods along the Mountain Road just behind the sun lit clearing to the left of the Visitor's Center.
