The monolithic monument towards the left mid-ground honors the men of the 16th Connecticut, the regiment on the far left of
General Ambrose Burnside's final assault, September 17, 1862. No monument except for this field exists to pay equal
tribute to the hard marching men of CSA General Ambrose Powell Hill who stared from Harpers Ferry,
17 miles away, that morning and slammed into the Union troops to save General Lee's army.
