The bronze plaques which surround the monument, two of which are visible at the left,
note the names of those Confederate soldiers know to perish at Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island.

One other bronze plaque explains the unusual source of this Confederate monument
along with the absence of any other markers for these southern soldiers.
