Panoramic view of the position along Cemetery Ridge reached by CSA General Ambrose Ransom Wright on July 2nd, 1863. Confederate soldiers
reached this line and the Copse of Trees a day before Major General George Pickett's famous charge.
It is possibly this success that contributed to General Lee's decision to assault the center
of the Union line the following day. On Day 2, Major General Meade personally
placed Union soldiers in position to repulse General Wright's assault.
