Looking southwest towards Seminary Ridge from a position half way between the Confederate and Union positions. To the left,
center in the cut out section of trees along the ridge you can see the Virginia Monument. Immediately to its lower left is a
small marker to the 14th Connecticut who on July 3, 1863, burned the Bliss barn and farmhouse. Union commanders
frustrated with fighting to hold the farm buildings ordered the burning. The 14th Connecticut marker
notes the former location of the Bliss barn. The farm house was situated further to the right.
