A mile or so from this location, battlefield visitors will find a monument, a large boulder, and interpretive signs noting the site
of
the wounding of the beloved General Stonewall Jackson. All that commemorates the
site of the ghastly near fatal wounding of
General James Longstreet along the Orange Plank Road are current National
Park Service Markers. This may be an indication of
the post-war resentment
directed towards Longstreet for becoming a Republican and a Catholic after hostilities ended.
Several
of his former comrades also, perhaps unjustly, accused him of losing the Battle of Gettysburg
and thus by extension the entire War for Southern Independence.
